NEXTO DI NVS2525 Reviewed at Studio Daily
Submitted by cameradepartment on Mon, 2012-01-30 13:31The NEXTO DI NVS2525 has been reviewed over at Studio Daily. Here's a sample of what they had to say.
"The advent of multiple file-based recording formats and camera systems necessitates a new generation of efficient data management tools like the Nexto DI, which can accommodate, off-load, and store a range of data protocols and media types. From Alexa and SxS to XDCAM EX and P2 today’s shooter/filmmaker working project to project and (often) from producer to producer may frequently use a variety of cameras from just as many manufacturers. Because the Nexto is a platform-agnostic storage device, it can be invaluable in the field."

SMPTE Toronto Meeting - Solid State Portable Digital Recorders - Feb 7 2012
Submitted by cameradepartment on Mon, 2012-01-30 13:24Topic: Solid State Portable Digital Recorders
Date: Tuesday, February 7 ,2012 (1 WEEK EARLY)
Time: Meeting: 7:30 pm, Food: 6:30 pm
Location: Rogers Communications Centre Eaton Theatre, Ryerson University 80 Gould Street, Toronto
Arranged By: Reid Robertson
Sponsors: CAMERA DEPARTMENT & VISTEK
The prevalence of portable solid state recorders has come at the disappearance of the ubiquitous VTR for acquisition. Tape and all of its maintenance problems are going away, in favour of solid state media. Last March, the earthquake and tsunami in Sendai, Japan caused a disruption in production of videotape at the start of the production season. The price doubled overnight, as the tape stock shortage became clearer. This accelerated the move away from tape acquisition towards solid state media. Tonight, we will look at some of these recording devices, to learn about what’s available, how they work, & their production workflows.
Brian Young, Product Manager for Video & Production Technologies at Vistek. Brian will present devices from some of the many companies that they represent, and discuss the application of these solid state recorders in program production and their technologies.
Dan Keaton, Director of Sales and Marketing for Convergent Design. Dan will present the technology behind the Gemini 4:4:4 digital recorders, the advantages of recording ARRIRAW and discuss how this unit is used in high-end productions.
Daine Pearson, East Coast Sales Manager for Cinedeck. Daine will present the Cinedeck EX and RX uncompressed recorders, and discuss each models production applications.
Nasser Mroueh, Broadcast Sales Representative for Cinequip White. Nasser will present the PIX240 from Sound Devices, and discuss the areas in which this digital recorder is used. He will also bring an end user with his equipment, to share his experiences using his camera connected to a Ki Pro Mini recorder, on set and in post.
Pizza & Refreshments provided at 6:30pm. There will be no break between presentations.
